- performance/video
This work takes a Dadaist approach to phonology, linking the sounds of the English language with everyday objects to create a symbol system akin to modern hieroglyphics. A speaker does his very best to pair objects with their corresponding sounds, mimicking the cadence of a language-teaching drill. As the performance unfolds, narrative threads emerge, drawing on the logic of juxtaposition and association and resembling the fragmentary nature of concrete poetry. The piece offers a meditation on language, meaning, and the absurd.
