This solo show at Kunstmuseum Den Haag was created in the framework of the 100th anniversary of De Stijl.
Inspired by Mondrian’s transition from the figurative to the abstract, I held my vocabulary of everyday objects against the light, stripping them of the weight of the real world. By shedding their third dimension, these household items transcended their humble selves and opened up to more universal readings—hovering on the edge of the abstract and the poetic.

Intrigued by the curious flirtation between Dada and De Stijl, I introduced an element of sound: a musical score by artist Katrin Hahner, as well as fragments of spoken text. I explored the expressive potential of combining elementary geometric forms, lines, and sounds—exploiting their fruitful clashes. It was as though Mondrian’s meticulous compositions were engaging in a conversation with Schwitters’ joyous chaos in Ursonate.
