A NOT B
A NOT B (2010)
This book with photographic work by Uta Eisenreich explores the quirks and shortcomings of our cognitive tool-kit. A not B walks us along the fine line between common sense and uncommon nonsense in a realm reminiscent of pre-school books, assessment tests and optical illusions. Fascinated by humanity’s persistent attempts to impose order on an inconsistent reality, Eisenreich photographs ever-shifting arrangements of elementary objects, classified by the the most basic methods. From one image to the next, meanings transform, dissolve, and reappear. A playful web of clues and associations is spun, triggering readers to identify underlying patterns, discern illusory correlations, and navigate the a-logical connections within this constructed world.
